The Mind
As your primary source of communication, your voice is inextricably entwined with your emotions. Unfortunately, that means your emotional state affects how well you sing. Like an elite athlete, you need specialized mental tools at your disposal to maintain a high level of consistency, no matter what comes your way.
Singers experience an enormous amount of stress. Everyone from voice teachers, agents, critics and music directors praise you one moment and insult you the next. This is particularly painful in the voice studio, which should be a safe environment to learn and evolve. You need to develop great mental resilience, the mindset of a champion, to cope with the industry and its inevitable set backs.
I have myself experienced the negativity first-hand and understand the psychological damage many singers undergo. I have witnessed many gifted colleagues being held back from successful careers by defeatist beliefs, a real loss to the musical world.
As a result, I provide an upbeat learning environment, in which singers can feel valued, protected and supported. I help singers recognize their own long-standing, negative beliefs and “rewrite” them by impressing the mind with positive beliefs instead. This clears the way for amazing progress and an entirely new experience of singing.
These mental tools are extremely effective in practice, as well as performance situations. You use time more effectively and see more technical progress as a result. You become the grounded, confident singer you’ve always wanted to be.
